MY INSPIRATION

I found inspiration in Walker Evans' street photography. Specifically, I found his subway photography very interesting. After examining various photos, I found a subway photograph of a mother and son. I personally interpreted Evans' photograph as a mother comforting her son.

In my photo, I wanted to take a modern view on "comfort." Today, most kids, specifically teenagers, tend to deal with their problems on their own. Sometimes the issues teenagers are dealing with internally can become such a heavy weight that they "explode" and take out their frustrations on close friends, family, etc. Some people want to seek help but feel that if they do, they will be a burden to their loved ones. So, nowadays, teenagers learn to try to seek comfort in themselves, but do not always necesarily find it.

The model in my photo is screaming on a cliff. The photo is a visual representation of what happens internally when a person keeps all of their problems bottled up. Personally, when I keep things bottled up, overtime I become more irritable and frustrated until I finally get them off my chest. I used the scream action to represent the irritablity and frustration one might feel when they can't seek comfort in someone else. The cliff represents the emptiness or lonliness one might feel when their internal emotions become too much to handle.
