Why?

“Why?” is a question that doesn’t always have an answer. For example, why do people kill other people? In some instances, the killer could have a vendetta. However, if a person has no connection to their victim, the question could be left unanswered. Does the killer have a mental disorder? Is there an unknown connection? Is it simply a matter of the victim being at the wrong place at the wrong time? In some cases, the most disturbing answer could be that the killer finds pleasure in killing.
In my photo, I focused on the question “why do people kill?” and the answer being “for pleasure.” The photo is of a killer reading about their crime in a news article. I only photographed the killer’s hands in order to dehumanize them and strip them of any signs of guilt or regret. The hands are covered with black gloves to symbolize that the crime being discussed in the article was committed by them. I had the killer reading about their crime to illustrate that they have pride in it; almost as if they were reminiscing about what they have done.
