When I think of the term “legacy,” I think of something someone has left behind. This idea made me think about my upcoming graduation and what kind of legacy I will leave behind at my high school, so I decided to use this as inspiration for my photo. I wanted to focus on what someone is leaving behind in high school, so I narrowed that concept down to leaving behind an athletic legacy. Not every high school athlete continues playing post high school. I wanted to photograph someone leaving behind the athlete in order to continue growing as a person and shifting their focus to their future.

In my photo, I have a high school basketball player standing in the gym with her jersey on. She is looking up at a state championship banner from 1994. She is admiring the banner because this is a goal she wants to accomplish before she graduates high school. The banner symbolizes a legacy that has already been left behind by others. The jersey and admiration symbolizes a legacy that the basketball players hopes she can leave behind upon her termination of high school.
