I take thee to be my wedded spouse; to have and to hold from this day forward till death do us part. About 50% of those who take this vow end up breaking it by getting a divorce. The purpose of marriage is to build a family with and spend your life with the person you love. The concept of marriage leading to divorce is ironic because once they are married, the couple is expected to stay married until death, however, half of those couples divorce. The situation didn’t end as expected, which is the definition of irony.

I photographed someone taking off wedding rings in my photo to represent divorce. I chose to keep the face out of the photo to ensure that the focal point is the ring. I chose to eliminate distractions by keeping the nails free of any polish, keeping the hands and wrists free from any other jewelry, and having the model wear white, like she would have at her wedding. The dark background contributes to the photo by giving off a somber and melancholy mood.
