Tension between people occurs because their is mental or emotional strain between them. This can be caused by toxic relationships, a break up, cheating, financial instability, envy, etc. Tension can also occur when two people have feelings for each other, but neither of them know about the opposite person’s feelings. This is seen a lot in high schoolers. At this age, the majority of kids are not mature enough to be honest about their feelings with other people, so they keep their feelings to themselves and drop subtle hints.

In my photo, I wanted to capture the idea of tension caused by feelings for someone else. I decided to do this by using body language. I had a boy and a girl sit on a set of bleachers to show that the characters are still in high school, so they are not mature enough to talk out their feelings. The characters are also sitting far apart in order to create an awkward situation. The awkwardness also contributes to the tension that is being built in the scene. The characters’ feet are pointed towards one another to show that they have feelings for each other, but neither of them will address the feelings.
